Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center

MISSION — To support the Norfolk Animal Care Center in sheltering and caring for Norfolk’s stray and homeless animals, to promote and facilitate adoptions, to assist with special needs medical care, to promote and support spay/neuter in the community and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.

Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center (FNACC) gives Hampton Roads residents the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of homeless pets. We are a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit created to support the important work of the Norfolk Animal Care Center. Learn more about our mission, what we do, and the many ways you can help.

This holiday season, we invite you to be part of our shelter family by making a donation. Your gift will help bring love, comfort, and care to the animals that need it most. We are truly thankful for your support!

This holiday season, please remember Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center (FNACC), whose mission is to support the shelter animals at Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC). Your generosity has helped thousands of shelter animals—like the ones seen here—receive life-saving medical care.

In addition to providing funding for medical care, FNACC also supports a free monthly spay/neuter clinic for the Norfolk community, provides free pet food through the on-site and mobile pet pantries, and subsidizes adoptions through promotional events and programs, such as the Golden Paws program for senior pets and our expanded Best Buds adoption program.

In 2025, Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center is expanding the Best Buds program to include any two pets adopted together, encouraging more adoptions.

Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center continues to need your help ensuring animals get a second chance at life.

Here’s how your donation can make an impact:

  • $20 covers a vaccine for a pet in need

  • $50 buys a large bag of dog food

  • $75 helps subsidize an adoption

  • $250 funds a mass or hernia surgery

  • $600 covers a full heartworm treatment

  • $950 covers a monthly spay/neuter clinic in our community

Introducing Our Shelter Star!

Every month, we’re thrilled to highlight a special pet who may have faced unique challenges, has been a long-term resident, or has touched the hearts of our shelter staff.

To help them find the perfect family, Friends of NACC will sponsor their full adoption fee. By covering the adoption fee, we hope to give these "Shelter Stars" the best chance at finding the loving homes they deserve.

This month's Shelter Star is Gloria! She is a 2-year-old terrier mix who came to us in November as a stray. Gloria is a "ball" of energy, and her toy of choice is suitably a tennis ball. She is looking for a home that can keep up with her energy by taking her on long walks, playing fetch, and providing lots of tummy rubs.

If you are interested in adopting Gloria, Adoption Hours are 1:30 to 6:00 pm every day (except closed on Wednesdays) at 5585 Sabre Road Norfolk, Virginia 23502.

Best Buds Program

Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center is excited to announce that our Best Buds program is expanding! Originally designed to help bonded pairs find homes together by offering a 2-for-1 adoption deal, the program now covers any two adoptions that happen at the same time by the same family—regardless of species, breed, or intake situation.

That’s right—if you adopt two pets on the same day, Friends of NACC will pay the adoption fee for the second one! Whether it’s a dog and a cat, two rabbits, or any combination, this expansion is designed to make it even easier to welcome more love into your home.

Greetings,

The Friends of the Norfolk Animal Care Center Board (FNACC) is pleased to share with you our Annual Report for 2023. The programs we support reflect our mission:

“To support the Norfolk Animal Care Center in sheltering and caring for Norfolk’s stray and homeless animals, to promote and facilitate adoptions, to assist with special needs medical care, to promote and support spay/neuter in the community, and to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.”

As we reflect on the past year at FNACC, we are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support and dedication of our community. Our annual report is a testament to the collective efforts that have made a significant impact on the lives of so many of Norfolk’s homeless and stray animals.

This year’s report highlights the accomplishments we’ve achieved together, from successful adoption events, various fundraisers, and medical assistance.  We’ve seen our family of supporters grow not only in numbers but also in financial support and commitment to animal welfare.

This year we celebrate our 10th annual Octoberfest fundraising event and continue our partnership with IKEA. We welcomed a new NACC Bureau Manager and are excited to work closely with her and her dedicated staff on joint concerns and projects.  We also launched our mobile pet pantry program with a gift in memory of our friend and fellow board member, Tammy Dodson.

We invite you to read the stories of resilience and compassion that define our organization. Your support has been the cornerstone of our success, and it is with great pride that we share these accomplishments with you.

Sign up for our monthly newsletter to stay informed of our various activities and stories about the many animals we help.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Together we are creating a brighter future for Norfolk’s homeless animals.

With warm regards,

Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Board
